The Middle East has one of the fastest growing student populations heading towards undergraduate and post-graduate courses. The UAE in particular, has one of the highest application participation rates in the world, with thousands of secondary school graduates applying to both local and international college programmes.
This market is getting still more intriguing for Russian universities, both in terms of student recruitment and forming inter university partnerships (student exchange programmmes, dual degrees etc.).
Thus, April 09-11, 2014, Eastern European University Association participated in the Gulf Education and Training Exhibition - GETEX 2014 - which is by far the largest Education Fair in UAE, regularly visited by the British Council, Agence EduFrance, the Canadian Consulate, OSEC Business network Switzerland, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and groups from India, Australia, USA, Turkey, Lebanon and Ireland etc.
GETEX benefits from the patronage of UAE Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research, and hosts representative universities affiliated to the Ministry including the Higher Colleges of Technology, UAE University and Zayed University. The fair is also supported by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and the Dubai Knowledge Village & Dubai International Academic City - the region`s largest clusters of training institutes and higher education providers.
EEUA representative had an amazing opportunity to present IUNC Eurasia and other IUNC conferences to all interested participants of the fair with a separate stand. A lot of universities asked for details on participation conditions and fees, conference venue and estimated participants number. Besides that, many universities inquired about possibilities of establishing cooperation with other universities from around the globe at IUNC conferences, while special interest was expressed towards IUNC Middle East & Africa 2015 which is aimed to boost the cooperation with MENA region and other African countries.
It should be mentioned that in frame of participation in GETEX education fair, EEUA General Director also met with UAE Minister of Education - H.E Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan and introduced Eastern European University Association to the ministerial board of UAE. The Minister was interested to find out more about EEUA activity and its commitment to increase the level of international cooperation between HE establishments from around the globe and help CIS universities internationalize their campuses. EEUA General Director and UAE Minister discussed the plan to hold IUNC conference “IUNC Middle East & Africa 2015” in frame of the project GETEX and IUNC Middle East & Africa Education week in Dubai.
As a result it was agreed that IUNC Middle East & Africa 2015 will be held on April 18-21, 2015, under the patronage of the UAE Ministry of Education.
In conclusion it may be said that the pilot project "GETEX and IUNC Middle East & Africa Education week" is considered to become one of the major education events in UAE which will allow the universities to fuel their inspiration for international collaboration with up to 40 prescheduled meetings and a great number of exciting expert and peer-led sessions!
